Let Them

Is it our desire to be accepted, to fit-in, be popular?
Is it human nature? Our Society? Maybe our own ego plays a part in it too? Recently I saw a post called ‘Let them’, and it’s good!

Let them be upset.
Let them judge you.
Let them misunderstand you.
Let them gossip about you,
Let them ignore you.
Let them be “right.”
Let them doubt you.
Let them not like you.
Let them not speak to you.
Let them run your name in the ground.
Let them make you out to be the villain.
Whatever it is that people want to say about you, let them!
Kindly step aside and LET THEM
.

Gosh I wish I did this more in life!
I also think when you can find a way to ‘Let them’, you can be your authentic self.
You can find others that see you and they become part of ‘your tribe.’

As I’ve alluded to before, ‘fitting-in’ is not easy for me.  If I am honest, I felt shame, among other things, for not measuring up, and jealous of those that did.

Confession: If it wasn’t for a few key people and the desire to be an architect, I wouldn’t be here today.

You know those moments when time stands still?  It’s filled with peace, contentment, and joy. One moment stands out that I wanted to share.

It was my last year of college.

Every year the School of Architecture had a ‘Beux-Arts Ball’, something I never even thought of going to.

Me and ‘school dances’ just don’t go together, but that’s a story for another time.
Meanwhile I was drowning in my thesis, and wanted to be sure I gave it my all.

But, after some encouragement I decided to go. It was once of the best evenings I ever had!

Other classmates were excited to see me. I socialized effortlessly, danced my heart out and felt that I belonged. To this day, I cherish that moment and ‘the tribe’ of support.

You never know the impact you are making on others when you support and encourage them.

“Find your tribe and love them hard”
