So excited to share this from my awesome co-worker Jordan. She is an incredible thoughtful designer and has such an encouraging outlook of life. It is an honor to call her a friend.
7 Questions to (in)courage.
1) What do you do for a career? (also include if you are a parent/grandparent)
Interior Designer at an architect firm in Boston. I am currently working in the senior living sector and absolutely love and find it very fulfilling.
2) Who has inspired you? Why?
I have found different people have inspired for different things. I have friends who have overcome hardships that have pushed me to overcome mine. I have heard stories of peoples lived experiences that has pushed me to do things I wouldn’t have done otherwise. Coworkers who have overcome their fears which has pushed me to overcome mine
3) What are some examples of things you’ve done that are courageous?
I traveled abroad alone to Norway, and I went to visit a friend although I stayed alone and was alone a lot and it made me realize I don’t always know how to be alone and I had to figure out how to fill my time with things that I wanted to do and navigate traveling by myself while learning a new area.
4) Do you have a ‘bucket list’? Would you mind sharing at least one thing on that list?
Yes! It is constantly evolving as I am growing but one year I was able to do two countries in one year and now that is my goal. So traveling to two countries a year when I can, & traveling alone more.
5) What inspiring advice would you give for others?
Spend time learning who you are & who you want to be. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable (within a safe means of course). This will allow you to have great conversations, meet new people and put you in places/experiences you never thought you would imagine. It is awkward and uncomfortable at first but wow I have learned so much about myself and had experiences I never thought ai would imagine.
6) Is there something about you/your work or hobby you’d like to be shared?
I am so lucky to love who I work with. Working at both an architecture firm and bar, I meet and work with people from all walks of life and have learned so much. It is humbling and I have been very lucky to create great relationships
7) HOT SEAT! What is your question for me?
What is the thing you are most proud of?
Good question! There are many things in my life I feel proud / feel blessed about, things I have overcome and experienced. The thing that brings me the most joy / soul food is working with kids though our non-profit K.I.C.K. For many years I have said, ‘Architecture is for my heart – Martial Arts is my soul.’
July 2009, I was recovering from being very sick, and my work just started having us work part-time so I decided to start Karate. Never in my wildest dreams did I see myself doing this! This young boy – Justin – changed my life, and I am forever thankful.
